Aurora, ON — Parking Garage Traffic Study
A division of Metrolinx, GO Transit is the regional public transit service for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, with routes extending to communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. GO Transit carries 57 million passengers a year. Since May 1967, GO Transit has evolved from a single GO Train line along Lake Ontario’s shoreline into an extensive network of train lines and bus routes. Since service began, more than a billion riders have taken the GO Train or Bus — to work or school, to go home, or for leisure activities. GO provides its passengers with safe, fast, reliable, comfortable service to downtown Toronto and other urban centres.
As part of GO Transit’s capacity expansion plans, a 1,000-car parking garage was planned for the Aurora GO station where a traffic study was required to ensure traffic flows and safety were maintained. LMM was the preferred traffic consultant for this study including external and internal traffic circulation and design for the proposed 1,000-car multi-level parking garage in Aurora, Ontario.
The study included analysis of 11 signalized and unsignalized intersections with heavy pedestrian, car, bus and train traffic including analysis of a rail crossing. A variety of options and configurations were considered with special consideration for pedestrian safety and interaction between pedestrians, cars and buses. In addition, sight-line analyses were conducted to determine if minimum sight distance requirements are met.
